Ronda is located in the province of Malaga with dark angular mountains as its backdrop. Its precarious location at the sierra’s ridge may seem to offer lots of natural drama and panorama. Its unique establishment over the gaping El Tajo river gorge is awesome and majestic as there is an obvious 130 meter drop at its three sides. Moreover, the gorge supports a 18th century arched bridge majestically. This bridge is named the Puente Nuevo; tall whitewashed homes sit precariously from its lofty edges.

There are 3 parts to Ronda: northwest of the gorge, across the bridge and south. The northwest section of Ronda is the modern Mercadillo quarter whereas Ciudad, an ancient Moorish village lies across the bridge. The San Francisco suburb is located at the south of Ronda.

Breathtaking views

The much-ado about Ronda is the beautiful landscape it offers. The unique positioning of the town is enough to take anyone’s breath away. The extraordinary view of Ronda in its majestic setting is more than enough to awe any tourist; let alone a stroll down Río Guadalévin using the myriad of donkey tracks across the vast green valleys.

Natural haven

Ronda is a favorite choice for avid bird-watchers who would be delighted to sight the lesser kestrels that often make their nests in the crevices of the cliffs beneath Alameda Park. Further down, one may be fortunate enough to spot some crag martins.

Ronda town is a pure attraction to the constant day-trippers from all across Malaga especially to Costa del Sol.

Structure

The structures of Ronda are quite unique and awesome. Ciudad village showcases many Moorish structures with an equally plentiful number of Renaissance mansions. There is so much to see around Ciudad that one has to do so on foot at leisure.

Across the bridge along Santo Domingo Street or Marqués de Parada Street, there is a special winding road which leads to 17 Casa del Rey Moro. This is an 18th century mansion that was built over costa brava ferienhaus Moorish foundations. This mansion has a vast and well maintained garden which is opened to the public. There is an impressive underground stairway called the Mina which descends right to the river in 365 steps.

This ensures a constant water supply during attacks from the enemy. A viewing balcony is situated at the bottom to admire the towering rock walls of Tajo as well as some feathered species which would delight bird watchers.
